Little-known lemon facts:

  • Cars could run entirely on lemons, but engine patents owned by the oil industry prevent this.
  • During the Salem witch trials, witches were discovered by use of lemons. Any woman tearing up in the presence of a cut lemon was burned at the stake or drowned.
  • Three is the magic number, according to feminine sexuality expert Lara Marie Brenton. In her book, "Sour Lemonade and Fiery Desire," she claims sharing three lemons during intercourse will work as an aphrodisiac, increasing both partners' sexual excitement eightfold. She also suggests gnawing on one lemon for auto-erotic measures involving asphyxiation.
  • Jesus was pelted with lemons shortly after the crucifixion began.
  • Lemons are widely attributed to the invention of the color yellow. English entrepreneur and early pigment engineer Isaac Stanley is quoted as saying, "The world needs yellow on billboards and t-shirts, as to easier identify those men and women of bitter disposition and poor taste."
  • Lemons sell at roughly 99 cents per trio. Perhaps less than coincidentally, this is the average amount left in a college freshman's possession after rent, insurance, and ramen.
  • After his suicide, few things were found in the bunker of Adolph Hitler. The remaining items include: the former Führer's skull, tattered clothing, unfilled tax forms, a half-empty tube of Colgate toothpaste, an iPod Nano prototype, and three lemons.
  • Lemonade stands, a popular form of financial support amongst children, began as a covert operation under NAMBLA to lure children away from well-populated playgrounds.
  • The history of the lemon is a tumultuous one. Since 1971 lemons have not been on speaking terms with their Father, the Sun.
  • The name comes from the Greek word lemin, meaning, "lazy demon."
  • Country singer Carrie Underwood can be seen eating a lemon on the cover of Rolling Stone magazine. In the interview, she claims it's her favorite fruit.
  • Night Stalker Richard Ramirez's original idea for a calling card was to leave a lemon at his crime scene. Later he changed it to a pentagram drawn in blood, considering a lemon too menacing.
  • Two-thirds of all divorces begin over lemon-related disputes.
  • Lemon meringue pie contains no actual lemon. The tangy flavor is derived from discarded battery acid made edible and safe for human consumption.
